Collaboration Agreement for the Technification of Irrigation District 026 in Tamaulipas

As part of the ongoing water and agricultural modernization strategy in the state, a working meeting was held on January 22, led by Raúl Quiroga Álvarez, head of the Secretariat of Hydraulic Resources for Social Development of Tamaulipas, in coordination with representatives of the Civil Associations of Users of Irrigation District 026 – Bajo Río San Juan.

The meeting included the participation of user leaders such as Mario Mejía Vega, Carlos Hinojosa, Abelino Pérez García, and José Luis Hinojosa, who, together with state authorities, are advancing the implementation of the Collaboration Agreement for the Technification of Irrigation District 026, aligned with the long-term vision of Governor Américo Villarreal.

This initiative aims to modernize hydro-agricultural infrastructure, increase water-use efficiency, and strengthen the productivity of the agricultural sector in Tamaulipas. In this context, a technical and financial proposal was presented, focused on on-farm technification as a strategic axis, incorporating solutions oriented toward the efficient use of reclaimed wastewater.

The proposal seeks to optimize agricultural production with lower water consumption, while promoting soil regeneration and aquifer recovery, under criteria of sustainability, resilience, and strict compliance with the applicable regulatory framework.

During the meeting, the support of the Secretariat of Urban Development and Environment of Tamaulipas (SEDUMA) was also highlighted, along with the active participation of users from Irrigation District 026, who are considered key stakeholders for the viability and success of the project.

It was also reported that work is ongoing on structuring a high-impact regional project with a binational perspective, aligned with water efficiency objectives along the border. This effort is being developed in coordination with the North American Development Bank (NADBank), with the support of its Managing Director, John Beckham, within the framework of its mandate to promote strategic, financially viable, and environmentally responsible projects in the border region.
