Eng. Francisco X. Valdés participated in the 2nd Metropolitan Water Forum 2025, organized by the Mesa Ciudadana del Agua, where he delivered the lecture “Regenerative Irrigation.” During his presentation, he highlighted the importance of water as a central element for agricultural and environmental resilience, as well as the need to rethink how this resource is managed in a context of growing water demand.
The speaker explained that regenerative irrigation is an innovative approach that integrates the safe reuse of water, improvement of soil health, and natural moisture capture. This model seeks to reduce pressure on aquifers and rivers through practices such as infiltration, precision irrigation, and soil restoration, allowing each drop of water to contribute not only to crop growth but also to ecosystem regeneration and aquifer recharge.
“It is about transforming the use of water into a circular and sustainable process, capable of generating environmental, social, and productive benefits,” Valdés stated during his participation.
The engineer expressed special thanks to the forum organizers: Luis Apperti, César Ponce, and David Hernández, directors of the Mesa Ciudadana del Agua; as well as to Raúl Quiroga Álvarez, Secretary of Water Resources for Social Development of Tamaulipas; Dr. Yolanda Villegas, also a guest speaker; and AISTAC, for their leadership and commitment to creating spaces for dialogue that drive real solutions to the water challenges of southern Tamaulipas.
Finally, Eng. Valdés recognized all attendees for their interest, questions, and willingness to build new ways of managing our most valuable resource: water. He reiterated his call to continue working together to move toward a more resilient, productive, and sustainable future.
